Swim Meet FAQ
Swim meets take place on Saturdays from 8:30am
to approximately 2:00pm
and are open to all active team members.
How to Sign-up for Swim Meets
Hello everyone, we are getting ready to start meets so we need to get
everyone familiar on how to get your kids into the meets. On the table near the family
folders you will see a binder that has papers with your swimmers name on it. If your
child is going to swim in a meet you have to sign them in, if you will not be there
you don't have to do anything. The sign in will always be a week ahead of the swim
meet. It is very important that you sign in for all future meets.
The process of getting a meet put together takes a week, that’s
why we need you to sign in a week in advance of each meet. Please do not use the online
Swimfast. If you have any questions about the sign in process please ask any
coach. If at anytime you can not sign-in for the meet in person you can email Coach Jason at
bainorpd@sbcglobal.net Thanks, lets have a great season!
What events will my child be
swimming in?
Coaches determine who swims in what events according
to their individual goals and abilities.
The coaches evaluate strokes, endurance, and experience
of all the swimmers. They then place them in the
events in which they can excel and do their best.
Seeding a meet consists of placing the swimmers
in events that will benefit themselves and the team.
Coaches are required to complete their seeding by
the Monday evening prior to the swim meet. the coaches
will post meet sheets on Thursdays, listing each
swimmers events. It is very important that you check
these lists and notify the coaches if your plans
have changed and if your child will not be at the
meet.
Age Group Tent
Age Group Tents are set up close to the pool area
and are supervised by Age Group Parents.
The Age Group Parents also gather the swimmers before
an event and gets them to the Ready Bench.
All swimmers are required to remain in this area
for the duration of the meet. This enables the Age
Group Parents to get them to their events on time!
If there are siblings in different groups, it is
important that each stay with his/her own age group.
If you want your child to remain with you during
the meet, you must first check in at the age group
tent and let them know you are there and that your
child will be with you.
This also means that you are responsible for getting
to the Ready Bench on time!
Ready Bench
About 3-4 events prior to every swimmer's event,
they will be escorted to the "Ready Bench" by the Age Group Parent. This is done
to ensure that every swimmer makes it to their race on time and does not miss
his/her opportunity to compete. Therefore, swimmers need to find their age group
tent and stay in that area. This saves time in getting the swimmers to their
events and helps to make the meet run smooth, especially with getting relay
teams together.
Events
Swimmers are called for their event at least two events prior to the one that
they are swimming. At this time, swimmers should be at the Ready Bench. Any
swimmer not on the block when the starter blows the whistle (indicating that the
swimmers can step up on the blocks) will have 30 seconds to be on the block or
they will receive a false start. Leaving the block before the official start
will also result in a false start. Two false starts in any heat to one swimmer
will equal a disqualification (DQ).
What are the events?
There are five individual events consisting of:
Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly,
and the Individual Medley (IM: one length of each
of the four strokes). There are two relay events
consisting of: Freestyle stroke and Medley (comprised
of different strokes). Four swimmers from each team
swim equal lengths. The 6 and under age group relays
are co-ed.
Disqualification (DQ)
Two judges from each team walk the sides of the pool watching the swimmers'
strokes, turns and finishes. Illegal strokes, turns or finishes may be an
advantage to the swimmer and therefore the judge will disqualify the swimmer for
that event. The swimmer will receive a DQ slip stating the reason for the
disqualification.
What time should I arrive at
the meet?
CHECK IN IS AT 7:00 AM SHARP!
It is very important to check-in with your coach,
since the coach has to attend a "Scratch Session"
to eliminate absent swimmers and enter substitute
swimmers. There can be no exceptions!
If you are late, you will be scratched. Parents, please do not arrive earlier than 6:30am to set up
your area as we do not have supervision until that time.
If there is a sudden emergency that prohibits you
from attending PLEASE LET US KNOW!
